Appearance and language
Customize how TellDone looks and which languages it uses.
The dual-language model
TellDone has two independent language settings. This is the single most important thing to understand about how the app behaves.
- App language - the language of buttons, menus, navigation, transactional emails, push notifications, inbox confirmation messages, and report section headings. Supports 15 languages: English, Spanish, Russian, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Slovak, Greek, Turkish, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.
- Voice / content language - the language used for everything generated from your voice: note titles, summaries, tasks, events, Smart Context replies, and the body of every report. Supports 60+ languages.
These are independent. A German speaker can keep a Japanese app and still get German summaries. A bilingual user can switch the voice language without ever touching the menu language.
The voice language is the most important setting in TellDone. Pick the language you actually speak in your recordings, even if it does not match your interface.
Where each setting shows up
| Surface | Driven by |
|---|---|
| Buttons, menus, tabs | App language |
| Email subjects and push notification text | App language |
| Report section headings | App language |
| Inbox confirmation messages | App language |
| Note titles, summaries, tasks, events | Voice language |
| Smart Context replies | Voice language |
| Daily, weekly, monthly, yearly report bodies | Voice language |
Changing your app language
- iOS: the app language follows your device language. To change it, open the iOS Settings > TellDone > Language, or change your device language. TellDone detects the change next time it opens.
- Web app: open Settings > Voice & Language and pick App language from the 15 supported options.
If your device language is not one of the 15 supported app languages, the app falls back to English. Your voice language is unaffected and can still be any of the 60+ supported voice languages.
If your device language changes and your voice language no longer matches it, an inbox card appears with a quick link to Transcription language settings. Tap the link in the card to update your voice language in one tap.
Changing your voice language
- Open TellDone Settings
- Scroll to Transcription language and tap the current language shown
- Search or scroll through 60+ available languages
- Tap your language
The new voice language is used for your next recording. Existing notes keep the language they were originally created in.
"My summaries used to come out in English"
In older versions, if your device language was outside English, Spanish, or Russian, the app sometimes generated English summaries even when you spoke another language. The two settings are now fully independent across 15 app languages and 60+ voice languages. Go to Settings, tap Transcription language, and pick the language you actually speak - all new notes and reports will follow it.
