Smart Context
Smart Context is available on the Basic, Pro, and Ultra plans.
Smart Context is TellDone's AI feature that connects your recordings to your existing tasks. It has two parts: Smart Autocomplete and Smart Achievements.
Smart Autocomplete
When you mention completed work in a voice note - like "I finished the presentation" or "sent the invoice to the client" - TellDone automatically finds the matching task and marks it as done.
How it works
- You record a voice note mentioning completed work
- AI analyzes your words against your active tasks
- If a match is found, the task is automatically marked as done
- You see a confirmation that a task was auto-completed
Rules
- Up to 3 auto-completions per recording
- Only matches against your active (not already completed) tasks
- All auto-completions can be reviewed and undone in Settings > Activity
Smart Achievements
Sometimes you complete work that wasn't planned as a task. When TellDone detects this, it creates an achievement record so your real progress is captured even when you work on unplanned items.
Achievements appear in your reports, giving you a complete picture of what you accomplished - both planned and unplanned work.
Up to 2 achievements can be recorded per recording.
Examples
Here are a few examples of how Smart Context interprets your words:
- "I deployed the new API" - if you have a task "Deploy API to production", it is automatically marked done
- "Finished migrating the database, also wrote tests for the auth module" - the matching task is completed, and 2 achievements are logged (the migration and the tests)
- "I called the dentist and renewed the subscription" - if neither matches an existing task, both are saved as achievements
Where achievements show up
Achievements are included in your daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly reports. They give you credit for work you did even if it was not in your task list.
Settings
To enable or disable Smart Context:
- Go to Settings
- Toggle Auto-complete tasks on or off
- Toggle Create achievements on or off
You can enable or disable auto-complete and achievements independently - for example, keep achievements on but turn off auto-complete if you prefer to manage task status manually.
Smart Context works best when your task titles are descriptive. "Call Maria about the contract" is much easier for AI to match than just "Call".
Where to see Smart Context activity
- Settings > Activity - view all auto-completions and undo any mistakes
- Reports - achievements and auto-completed tasks appear in your daily, weekly, and monthly reports
- Note detail - auto-completed tasks are highlighted in the note that triggered them
Smart Context also runs on every follow-up recording. When you follow up on a task or note, Smart Context can complete tasks, update deadlines, change priorities, or set reminders - all detected automatically from what you say. See Follow-up recordings for the full list.
Auto-correction learning
TellDone watches the way you edit notes, tasks, and events and quietly learns the corrections you keep making. Over time it picks up the names, brand spellings, and jargon that matter to you, so future transcripts come out right without you fixing them again.
What it learns
- Speech-recognition slips that you fix every time (for example, the engine hears the wrong spelling of a name but you keep correcting it).
- Proper nouns and specialist terms the engine could not know on its own: project names, people, brands, product codenames.
How the learning kicks in
- You edit a note title, task name, or event field by hand, the same way you always do.
- When you change the same word to the same correct version about three times, TellDone turns that into a personal rule.
- The rule then works automatically two ways:
- Future transcripts are fixed before the AI even sees them, so the right spelling appears in summaries, tasks, and events.
- The recognizer gets a hint for your next recordings, so over time the engine makes the mistake less often in the first place.
When it actually starts working
The rule does not take effect the moment you finish your third correction. TellDone promotes new rules once a day during a nightly background job, so the rule is active the next day and applies to recordings you make from then on. Recordings before the promotion are not retroactively rewritten.
If you want a name learned faster, just keep using the correct spelling consistently when you edit. Three same-direction edits is enough, and the rule lights up the next day.
What it does not do
- It is not a style or grammar editor. A one-off rewording or a stylistic tweak is ignored, only repeated identical fixes become a rule.
- It does not change anything you have already saved. Existing notes, tasks, and events keep their text exactly as you left them.
If something gets learned wrong
If the engine learned an incorrect spelling because you tapped through the wrong suggestion a few times, simply do the reverse: keep correcting the word back to what you actually want. Three same-direction edits the other way will create the reverse rule and it activates the next day. For a faster reset, contact support and we can clear the rule directly.
Where it works
This is a server-side feature, so it applies the same way whether you record on iPhone, Apple Watch, or the web app.
Plan availability
Auto-correction is available on every plan (Free, Basic, Pro, Ultra). There is nothing to switch on - it runs in the background as you use TellDone.
