Yearly reports

Pro plan and above

Yearly reports are available on the Pro and Ultra plans. Free and Basic users do not get yearly reports. See Plans and pricing.

On January 1st, TellDone generates an annual review of your entire year. It is the biggest report TellDone produces - it covers every month of your TellDone history for the year and is built from your monthly reports.

Sections

  • Year in Review - the defining story of your year.
  • Top Themes - dominant topics and projects across all twelve months.
  • Major Achievements - your most significant accomplishments and why they matter long-term.
  • Activity Patterns - rhythms, seasonality, and how your work shifted.
  • Smart Context Evolution - how your tags, projects, and priorities evolved through the year.
  • Tag Universe - top tags by frequency and shifts across quarters.
  • Year-Over-Year - comparison to previous years (when available).
  • Looking Ahead - strategic priorities and forecasts for next year.

Year in numbers

A summary table at the top shows your totals for the year:

  • Tasks completed and average per month
  • Notes created
  • Events scheduled
  • Ideas captured (if any)

AI narrative

The AI analysis takes a strategic perspective:

  • Year in review - the defining story of your year in 5-7 points
  • Top achievements - your 3-5 most significant accomplishments and why they matter long-term
  • Unresolved issues - problems that persisted across the year
  • Patterns and trends - recurring themes that span months, seasonal rhythms
  • Idea clusters - creative themes that emerged from your ideas
  • What improved - areas where you grew compared to the start of the year
  • What to stop doing - habits or activities that did not serve you
  • Forecast - where things are heading based on current trajectory
  • Strategic priorities for next year - top 3 recommended priorities with how to measure success

Data appendices

After the narrative, the report includes auto-generated appendices:

  • Monthly dynamics - month-by-month table showing completed tasks, pending tasks, notes, events, and trend arrows
  • Quarterly analysis - Q1 through Q4 comparison of productivity metrics
  • Chronic tasks - tasks that have been pending for over 90 days (a stricter threshold than the 14 days used in monthly reports)
  • Ideas of the year - all idea-type notes grouped by month
  • Tags of the year - top 20 tags by frequency

Unlike monthly reports, yearly reports do not include burnout detection, areas of responsibility, or 80/20 analysis. The focus is strategic and long-term, not week-to-week course correction.

How it is built

The yearly report is a two-phase document:

  1. Code sections - deterministic tables and metrics computed from your raw data
  2. LLM narrative - AI-generated strategic analysis built from all your monthly reports

The AI receives every monthly report from the year as context, so it can identify patterns that span the entire twelve months.

Viewing yearly reports on the web app and iPhone

Yearly reports are rendered as flowing markdown - a narrative document rather than a structured tile layout. The report includes the year-in-numbers summary table, the AI narrative sections, and data appendices (monthly dynamics, quarterly analysis, chronic tasks, ideas, tags) flowing in sequence.

  • Period navigator - use previous and next buttons to move between years, or open the year picker to jump to any year.
  • The copy button (clipboard icon) copies the full report to your clipboard, ready to paste into a doc, an email, or another app.
  • Auto-refresh - when the yearly report is generated, the screen refreshes automatically.
  • "Up next" placeholder - if you open the current (in-progress) year, you see an "Up next" placeholder. The report appears on January 1st of the next year.

To view yearly reports:

  1. Go to the Reports tab
  2. Select Year
  3. Use the navigator buttons or the year picker to switch between years

Report language

Yearly reports are generated in your content language (the language you speak), not your UI language. Section headings and email subjects stay in your UI language; the body text is in your content language.

Email delivery

If you have email reports enabled, the yearly report is delivered to your inbox on January 1st alongside your other reports.

  1. Go to Settings > Email Reports
  2. Toggle on Yearly report delivery
  3. The report is sent to your account email

The email contains the same full content as the in-app report, with markdown rendered as HTML.

tip

The yearly report works best when you have been using TellDone consistently. The more monthly reports available, the richer the annual analysis. Even a partial year produces useful insights, as the system falls back to weekly reports if monthly ones are not available.
